Asterfusion® CX-T switches combined with AFC (Asteria Fabric Controller) and K8s/OpenStack CNI & Neutron plug-ins can allow cloud data center administrators to automatically provision and offload overlay network configurations using the process compatible with their standard operational procedures. Through the REST APIs Asterfusion CX-T switches can also be integrated and controlled by third-party or customers’ own management platforms for unified & efficient cloud data center control, orchestration and management.

Besides AsterNOS (the control plane software) running on x86 processor, Asterfusion® CX-T switches also support FusionNOS framework software running on two ARM SoC-based Intelligent Service Processing Unit*. Using the FusionNOS framework as the foundation, network developers can easily develop their own unique upper-layer business applications and if necessary, can also port various applications currently running on x86 processors onto the ARM processors for higher-performance and/or cost-efficiency.
Compared with fixed-function switching chip, the protocol-independent switching chip used in Asterfusion® CX-T switches can adapt new functions needed for emerging network protocols and business applications through a data plane software development process. This data plane software development cycle normally takes a few weeks while similar functional changes in the fixed-function switching chip would involve multi-years of ASIC development efforts. The deployment of new functions in the Asterfusion® CX-T switches will go through the software upgrade process with zero impacts on the hardware platform and hence, protect customers’ capital equipment investment.
In the scenarios where data centers need to have a highly agile and highly resilient infrastructure for rapid evolving business models and applications, Asterfusion® CX-T switches can support protocol-independent switching functions such as flexible adjustment of FDB space, new or proprietary protocols parsing, multi-path resilient-hash packet forwarding, and fine-grained congestion control. Coupled with Asterfusion control plane software (AsterNOS) and intelligent fabric controller (AFC), Asterfusion® CX3-T and CX5-T cloud switches with 100G interconnection capability can be used to build up 2-tier spine-leaf mesh networks with superb horizontal scalability and multi-service bearing capability.
The combination of industry-leading 100G-port density of Asterfusion® CX564P-T as the Spine switches and non-oversubscribing Asterfusion® CX312P-48Y-T as the TOR switches coupled with CX532P-T as the Leaf switches would allow customers to build up 3-tier mesh data center mesh networks that can support up to 65,536 servers. In addition, all the Asterfusion® CX3-T and CX5-T switches come with 2*25G dedicated telemetry ports in their front panels, which would allow cloud data center administrators to collect as much INT information they need to optimize their business operations as possible.
The integrated ARM SoC-based intelligent service processing units inside the Asterfusion® CX3-T switches can carry out high-valued network service functions such as SSL decryption/encryption, service functioning chaining, stateful flow load-balancing and network address translation. Therefore, Asterfusion® CX3-T switches can be positioned and deployed as edge gateway devices to provide secured interconnections and layer-2 network interoperability between core and regional data centers in mega-sized enterprises and state own entities.
